The 15th TDC Architecture Seminar
“Use of wood in the new National Stadium”

The second competition of the New National Stadium was won by Kengo Kuma + Azusa Design + Taisei Construction. In this competition, replaced the Zaha proposal, the use of domestic timber was requested by the wood industry. For this reason, it seems natural to entrust this national project to Mr. Kengo Kuma, who had been regarded as an architect of natural materials.
It is now about to end of the dark era for the past 50 years for the forestry indusry in Japan. In this occasion, we asked Mr. Kuma directly about how wood is used for structural materials and interior materials, and its effects.
